Our story

CAQA Marketplace Retail Group

CAQA Marketplace Retail Group is an independent multi-format retailer serving Melbourne's south-east. It runs a full-line supermarket with fresh produce, deli, bakery and butchery departments, a fashion store selling women's, men's and children's apparel and footwear, a community pharmacy with a dispensary and health services, and an online store that offers click and collect and home delivery across all three formats. Marketplace competes with the national chains on service, local product ranges and community connection, and serves around 38,000 customer transactions a week in store and about 2,400 online orders.

The group is organised into six departments: supermarket operations, the fashion store, the community pharmacy, online store and fulfilment, merchandise, buying and visual merchandising, and people, safety and loss prevention. The supermarket trades from 7 am to 10 pm seven days, with a night fill crew from 9 pm, the fashion store trades centre hours including late nights, and the pharmacy is open 8 am to 8 pm with a delivery run each afternoon. The fulfilment centre at Dandenong South picks and packs online orders in two shifts and dispatches through its own drivers and a courier partner. Head office holds buying, marketing, finance and people functions.

Marketplace operates under the Australian Consumer Law, the Fair Work Act and the General Retail Industry Award, the Victorian Food Act and the Food Standards Code, Victorian occupational health and safety law and, for the pharmacy, the Victorian drugs and poisons legislation and the Pharmacy Board guidelines. Each site holds a food safety program or pharmacy quality system, keeps temperature, cleaning, incident and complaint registers, and completes a monthly compliance self-audit reviewed at head office. Loss prevention, cash handling and respectful customer behaviour are managed under group-wide policies with training recorded in the team training matrix.

What we stand for

Customer first

Every decision starts with what the customer needs, whether they are at the deli counter, the fitting room, the dispensary or the checkout on their phone.

Know the product

Team members learn the ranges they sell so they can give honest, useful advice and never guess about food, medicines or fit.

Safe and fair

A safe store for customers and staff, fair pay and rosters, and no tolerance for abuse of team members from any direction.

Local and honest

Marketplace backs local growers, makers and causes, prices clearly and fixes mistakes without argument.
